Launch Pad October 16, 2021

This Tuesday is the Gran Final of Diseñando tu amor, which is the only show I’m up to date with. I’m sad to see it end, but the story (so nice to have one!) is coming to a close. So far, I haven’t seen anything to replace it. Contigo sí was supposed to be up next, but they may want to hold on to it and give us more La Rosa de Guadalupe for a while. *eye roll*

I’ve been watching some stuff on Netflix that you might like:

  • Mucho Mucho Amor: the Legend of Walter Mercado – documentary
  • The first season of Control Z – high-stakes high school drama about secrets, with social media playing a significant role. There is a second season, but I kind of needed a breather after the first one!
  • La Venganza de las Juanas – five sisters all named Juana find each other and start searching for their father. Lots of familiar faces in this one: Carlos Ponce, Oka Giner, Renata Notni, Zuria Vega. I’m about halfway through the 10-episode season.
  • Blood & Water – this one’s not Spanish-language, but I’m a sucker for a private school setting. Uniforms = drama? There are two seasons, so far, about South African high school kids dealing with parentification, drugs, sex, child trafficking, and finding out their parents are involved in some serious shit.

Have you seen anything lately I need to check out?

Not me about to scream in delight because you have been watching Blood & Water. Love this series immensely and I binged through season 2 on the very day it came because I just had to know if Puleng and Fikile would put this to rest already!!!

A reality called “Por amor o por dinero” is coming to Telemundo on Wednesday, Nov. 17, at 7:00 PM. It’s hosted by Carlos Ponce and will replace La casa de los famosos:

I won’t be watching, either. I’m still trying to live down the shame of having become addicted to La casa de los famosos!

The grand finale of DTA: So did Judith (Majo’s sister) end up “caring” for Leonardo??

I’m so glad that someone else enjoyed Diseñando tu amor as much as I did! It had a refreshing cast (not the same Uni stars we see over and over), and the story and subplots were all satisfying.

Maybe it’s just me, but I thought that the most moving relationship and the best hugs weren’t between any of the romantic couples, but between Valentina and Helena.

PS- I watched Mucho Mucho Amor earlier this year (or maybe it was last year?) and loved it.

I’ve got Juanas in my queue.

I just finished ¿Quién Mató a Sara? (Netflix) It was bingeable. Also plenty of familiar faces. Eugenio Siller, Carolina Miranda, Ela Velden, Ana Lucía Domínguez, Luis Roberto Guzmán, Alejandro Nones, Polo Morin.

I’m watching a documentary about a German group (meaning cult) in Chile called Colonia Dignidad (Netflix). I also put a Chilean film on my list recently – Tony Manero. I was intrigued by the Saturday Night Fever angle.

I hear the kids these days really like Élite… I think it’s also posh school drama.
