Launch Pad October 16, 2021

This Tuesday is the Gran Final of Diseñando tu amor, which is the only show I’m up to date with. I’m sad to see it end, but the story (so nice to have one!) is coming to a close. So far, I haven’t seen anything to replace it. Contigo sí was supposed to be up next, but they may want to hold on to it and give us more La Rosa de Guadalupe for a while. *eye roll*

I’ve been watching some stuff on Netflix that you might like:

  • Mucho Mucho Amor: the Legend of Walter Mercado – documentary
  • The first season of Control Z – high-stakes high school drama about secrets, with social media playing a significant role. There is a second season, but I kind of needed a breather after the first one!
  • La Venganza de las Juanas – five sisters all named Juana find each other and start searching for their father. Lots of familiar faces in this one: Carlos Ponce, Oka Giner, Renata Notni, Zuria Vega. I’m about halfway through the 10-episode season.
  • Blood & Water – this one’s not Spanish-language, but I’m a sucker for a private school setting. Uniforms = drama? There are two seasons, so far, about South African high school kids dealing with parentification, drugs, sex, child trafficking, and finding out their parents are involved in some serious shit.

Have you seen anything lately I need to check out?

Here’s a new show coming “soon” from Telemundo–La mujer de mi vida:

This article came across my Twitter feed and I feel it speaks to my experiences as a heritage speaker:

Vencer el pasado, the fourth (and last?) installment of the Vencer series starts on Tuesday on Univision, taking the place of Si nos dejan, which ends Monday.

Univision tlnovelas has two new shows on Monday–Amar otra vez replacing Un Gacho al Corazón and Velo de Novia replacing Contra viento y marea.

Tuesday night we finally get Malverde and I’ve got everything crossed that it’s as good as it looks in the promos.

I’m super excited about Marvel’s podcast Wolverine: La larga noche, but it does seem to require a Sirius or an Apple Podcasts subscription.

Why is NBCUniverso broadcasting the World Cup of Futsal?

I totally thought that was a typo, but Mr. 5ft says it’s indoor fútbol with different rules and it predates “indoor soccer.”

In other TV-related news

Billboard Awards are on Thursday night on Telemundo and NBCUniverso.

In case you missed it last week, Univision, Galavisión and UniMás will be available on YouTubeTV:

I guess I’m falling asleep on the job! I missed the beginning of Despertar contigo on Galavision:

And here’s another rerun that started this week, on UniMás:

I figured I was going to watch Ási se baila anyway, but now I have a specific team to cheer for:

I don’t know how all the “Vencer” telenovelas fit together, but here’s the latest one:

So what’s up with you?

Updates:

This sounds like the back cover of every steamy romance novel ever, and I mean that in a good way:

La Hija del Embajador ended last night–at least through Season 2. I haven’t heard anything about Season 3, but will anyone want to watch it with the title character gone?

Televisa’s working on a couple of new shows, SOS me estoy enamorando and El amor cambia de piel, which I’ll get around to adding to the Proximas page eventually!

Así se baila is premiering on September 12 on Telemundo.
